OUR STORY
THE OPTIMIST IN ME is an alternative rock band from the Netherlands, aiming to make a positive impact on global happiness while encouraging individuals to embrace their inner optimist.
By promoting awareness, they seek to deepen the understanding of mental health. Through the universal language of music and the captivating experience of live shows, they aim to foster a culture of support.
On November 17th, 2023, they unveiled their debut EP ‘You Should Smile More Often’ featuring three tracks with a diverse sound and feel. They described their music as ‘positive rock,’ carving their path in the musical landscape on their own terms
With a fresh mindset, they are set to release a brand new single titled ‘The Night’ on April 26, 2024. Additionally, they are closing in on revealing their first-ever live dates under the banner of ‘Gathering of Joy’
Let’s embark on this journey together and make an impact that will never be forgotten
GATHERING OF JOY – LIVE SHOWS AND FESTIVALS
Our plans are to host a gathering of joy as part of our live shows and work on a possible traveling festival under this banner.
It will provide people with a moment to enjoy themselves, featuring a Q&A session, social mingling, and an opportunity to engage with the band and like-minded individuals.
The initial dates will be scheduled in the first half of 2025

THE NIGHT (SINGLE, 2024)
“Will you get me through the night?”
Is a question that captures the essence of vulnerability
and seeking reassurance during challenging times.
It reflects a longing for support and
comfort, especially when facing anxiety, fear,
and the complexities of love. This resonates deeply with many people who navigate their own inner struggles and seek solace
in human connection…
Their new single ‘The Night’ was recorded between December 2023 and February 2024. They recruited Joris Nijenhuis (Leaves Eyes, Atrocity) on drums to infuse this uplifting song with a hard-hitting energy. Drum recording sessions took place in December 2023, with Conor Sirre handling guitar and bass guitar recording in his home studio. Meanwhile, Wietze entered the studio with JB van der Wal (ex-Aborted, Dool) to record vocals
Once again, co-worker of Andy Sneap and Colin Richardson, Chris Clancy (known for his work with Machine Head, Kill the Lights and Kataklysm) handled the mix and mastering process. Artwork by Björn Goosses
Wietze Halma – vocals
Joris Nijenhuis – session drums
Conor Sirre – bass/guitars
Release date April 26th 2024 on Mindful Music/The Orchard
YOU SHOULD SMILE MORE OFTEN (EP, 2023)
Between May and July 2022, we had the privilege of recording three tracks at the studio, Warehouse 37, in Groningen, The Netherlands.
The recordings were done in collaboration with Caleb Bingham (formerly of Five Finger Death Punch) and Dan Brooklyn. To ensure top-notch quality, we enlisted the expertise of Chris Clancy (known for his work with Machine Head and Kataklysm) to handle the mixing and mastering process, who was recommended by my relative, Andy Sneap, of Judas Priest.
The tracks we recorded represent a fusion of modern and classic alternative rock, designed to captivate audiences of all ages. Our lyrical themes predominantly revolve around hope and positivity, as we strive to make a meaningful contribution to the greater good. This commitment to positivity and purpose will also be reflected in our live shows, where we aim to create an uplifting and impactful experience for our audience.
1. You Should Smile More Often (3:27)
2. Windows in the Sky (4:05)
3. Glass Half Ful (Don’t Be Affraid) (3:14)
